We’ve now met our goal of racing in each province and territory across Canada! On Saturday, we completed Race #17 at Lakeside Resort in Sunova, Ontario. This Resort has about 80% long term RV’ers, with the remaining 20% drop ins, like us. The Resort is on Lake Sunova, a small, shallow lake that is surrounded by lovely houses. Ski boats, pontoon boats, canoes and kayaks were seen on the shore. We spent a few minutes watching a water-skier go back and forth several times, literally, to get a good ski in (due to the smallness of the lake).

Race day dawned chilly (I dug out my Tri’ing toque and sweatpants) and overcast, but with a tease of sun later that day. As the lake is shallow and felt warm when I walked in it, we both initially planned to swim “naked” (aka without a wetsuit, not really naked :0) but at the last minute I decided to use my wetsuit to help me go faster. And it did. The bike course was scenic, taking us on rolling hills past acres of corn fields, an amusement centre with lots of farm animals and games, and farm houses. The run took us on a gravel road past an equestrian centre, big farms with fancy houses and a few hills. Luckily the sun did come out about then so we warmed up. We both had good races, especially Mike as he was battling a head cold and although he was pretty stuffed up, he managed to have a good time.

I gave the race announcer our contact card and briefly told her our story. She mentioned us a few times, and a fellow who had heard our interview with CBC came to chat..

After the race, we quickly packed up and headed out to start our long trek home. We want to be at Cultus Lake, Chilliwack BC by noon’ish Friday.

The first night was spent at Chez Walmart in North Bay, Ontario, and the second night at Chez No Frills in Geraldton, Ontario, (gotta love free ‘camping’!). The driving days are long (8+ hours on the road), but so far the weather has been decent, with some sprinkles, some heavy rain, some sunshine, some wind. Temperature has definitely dropped though.
