It’s taken a bit to get in the groove of our social media posts but hopefully we’ve got it sorted out.
We’re in Prince George now, having had a short stay in Quesnel at the municipal campground. It’s a nice little spot, next to the Quesnel River and close to town. Of course, our campground neighbours have ties to ALS – their son-in-law had it and was a very strong advocate for more research in Canada. The world is getting smaller. Or maybe it’s just our reach is expanding.

Our training consisted of a bike ride and a run. We took a day ‘off’ and drove out to Barkerville. Guess what? The woman at the front counter has ALS connection! Sheesh! It’s great to see how the simple decision to wear clothing with our logo on it spurs conversation, awareness and hopefully donations. Which one day will result in a treatment and cure.
Barkerville was an interesting place to visit. It was pre-season, so very few folks around, with none of the usual people in costume. But this gave us more time to read about the buildings and the people who made the town. And the journey to/from Barkerville gave us our first big wildlife viewing – 4 black bears and 2 moose!
We’re in Prince George now, along with the mosquitos and, today, the heat. Yesterday we had our first radio interview and today another TV interview (links to both will be on our media webpage). Thanks to Kristi for hooking us with the Prince George media.
We swam with the Northern Triathlon Club last night, and of course, met someone, but this time they have a PLS connection – primary lateral sclerosis – a rarer neuromuscular disease that primarily affects upper motor neurons, progresses more slowly than ALS, muscle stiffness and is often non-fatal (but not always). It can be very hard to distinguish between ALS and PLS.

We also had the pleasure to finally meet Kristi, the Move to Cure ALS walk coordinator for Prince George, in person! She came to see our TV interview and we had time to get acquainted face to face. And have a big hug.

Our time in PG so far has been a mix of Tri’ing PR, training, and relaxing. We’ve met some very wonderful people who inspire us and help keep us going.
