Race #6 was originally to be at Marsh Lake, outside of Whitehorse, and include a 6.5 km paddle, followed by 30km bike and finally a 9km run (bear spray required). But wildfires closed the main road to get there and the alternative was too long and would have impacted our other races. So, fortunately, the Saskatoon Triathlon Club happened to have a race June 21 at Pike Lake Provincial Park, so we joined in!

The day was…..very wet, windy at times, and a bit on the chilly side. It was actually warmer in the lake than standing watching!

The race format was a bit different, with men and women racing at different time. We both had good races, with me cheering Mike on for the start, and him cheering me at the finish. We spoke to several people about Tri’ing, including 2 palliative care nurses who had ALS clients. They very much appreciate what we’re doing. It’s so amazing and appreciative to have all this support; hopefully donations will increase so support to people living with ALS can improve.

Waiting for the fun to begin!

How am I supposed to get into this thing?

Sunday was much drier, but still chilly. We packed up and made our way to the Saskatoon Move to Cure ALS walk. Once again, Denis Simard (Executive Director, ALS SK) and his team welcomed us with open arms. Thanks to ALS SK’s social media posts, many people were already familiar with our journey. Shared stories, tears and hugs with a few folks. About 250 people were there, walking to support their loved ones. It was a very uplifting event.

We then headed to North Battleford for the night, before heading onto Edmonton for the next few days. While there, we’ll be visiting with Mike’s aunts and I’ll be visiting a dentist to see about a fix for my partially missing molar. Then we’ll decide if we have time to get to Marsh Lake before their race on July 1st. Stay tuned! 😊
