We continued our journey on Monday June 9th, camping the night in Sparwood. Unfortunately we missed the spaghetti-eating contest for the Coal Miner Days in Sparwood, but a young man at the campsite said it was pretty disgusting, speaking from experience as he won it last year. We drove past the biggest truck EVER, used for open-pit coal mining in Sparwood

We got into Alberta, while the day was still sunny. Saw windmill farms and rugged mountains

Stopped at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump World Heritage Site. The Blackfoot peoples used this area to drive buffalo off the cliffs, resulting in a large kill to provide for many families. This is one of the largest buffalo jumps in North America. The displays were informative.

Onward to Medicine Hat, passing acres and acres of ranch and crop lands, and lots of lots with tractors for sale.

And then we came across many fields with orange and blue triangular shaped tents on them. A quick Google told us these are bee houses used to pollinate canola crops. Thanks Google!

Our sleeping spot was the Homestead Market in Lethbridge (through Harvest Host). We literally parked in a large parking lot. No services, but no cost! Except to buy something (coffee, tea and snacks!) at the market the next day. After we were set up we laced up our runners and discovered a lovely – but windy! – paved trail on the rim of South Saskatchewan River

Wednesday saw us drive to Saskatchewan, stopping at Medicine Hat for groceries. Here, a man approached us as we were parking. He asked us about ourjourney. His sister has ALS. She’s in Toronto and is involved with a drug trial. We had a long chat about our journey.
Our end spot of the day was District Brewing in Regina, again, parking in the parking lot. Good beer and ‘Skipped’ dinner from Smashed Burger was a nice relaxing way to end the journey to our next race. We will be bringing the trailer to the Regina Move to Cure ALS on Saturday, walking with Cody and his relatives from Regina. Race #5, Echo Lake Sprint, is on Sunday!
