We were lucky enough to be able to fit in a quick plunge in Great Slave Lake. We went to a spot Mr. Google said is a swimming beach, but it didn’t look very swimmable. This area is actually used as an ice road in the winter to connect to the island behind Mike to the left.

Fortunate for us, we met Carole, who suggested we go to the end of the boardwalk, which provides a good view down Great Slave Lake and has rocks around it. And lucky for us, we are used to chilly water! (thanks to Carole for taking the pic!)

Then it was time to pack up and start the trip to Stettler Alberta.
In the 3 days since we last drove the Yellowknife Hwy, the ground started/restarted to smolder and in some cases, burn (see pic below). The sky was quite thick with smoke in some places. We were glad we decided to head out of the NWT as soon as possible to avoid getting trapped by wildfire.

Our stop for the night was Lady Evellyn Falls.

The mozzies and black flies were definitely pests! But luckily, Mike has a wonderful wife who thought to give him a bug-proof jacket for Christmas. Boy is he lucky! 😊

We’re now in Lesser Slave Lake, Alberta for the night. This lake is huge…not as huge as Great Slave Lake, but still huge!
