Cody Isted
My name is Cody Isted, and I’m excited to join the triathlon community. Growing up in Penticton, I was inspired by watching Ironman athletes compete, and from a young age, I dreamed of being part of that race.
On January 1, 2021, I made a life-changing decision to stop drinking alcohol. At the time, my energy and focus were consumed by drinking and its aftermath. With three young children—a daughter and twin boys—I realized I needed to be more present for them. That realization sparked my commitment to change.
Three years ago, I created a simple mantra for myself: “Have you cared for yourself today?” Asking myself that question daily has changed me. Over these past three years, I’ve redirected my energy into self-improvement, with fitness becoming a cornerstone of that journey.
In 2022, I returned to Penticton to watch Ironman Canada after many years away, and that familiar longing to participate reignited. I decided to set my sights on completing an Ironman, a journey that has progressed more slowly than I’d hoped—but one I’m determined to pursue.
Then, in May 2024, my father was diagnosed with ALS. A couple of weeks later, at a local triathlon in Oliver, I met Donna, who was wearing a "Tri’ing for ALS" sweater. Intrigued, I asked her, “Who are you Tri’ing for?” That question led to a heartfelt conversation and a long, tear-filled hug at the side of the road. Donna shared that she and her husband, Mike, are traveling across Canada in 2025, participating in a triathlon in every province to raise funds for ALS research.
Since that meeting, Donna and I have stayed in touch, and her story has been a powerful motivator for me. It inspired me to use my passion for triathlon to make a difference. This year, I’ll be participating in several races across British Columbia, raising funds for Tri’ing for ALS and contributing to their mission.
My hope is that one day, ALS will be a distant memory, and the families affected by it today will help ensure that future generations never have to face this devastating disease.
